Spatial9 partnered with AudioShake to present immersive versions of songs by Grammy-nominated Brazilian artist Marcos Valle at CES 2025. AudioShake's AI separated the original recordings into stems, and Spatial9 placed those stems in 3D and rendered them in Eclipsa Audio, the immersive format from Google and Samsung.
How the tracks were made
- Separate. AudioShake's stem separation split each finished recording into parts such as vocals, drums, bass and instruments.
- Place. Spatial9's AI analysed each stem and positioned it around the listener.
- Render. The scene was exported as Eclipsa Audio, based on the open IAMF standard.
- Play. The tracks were published on Spatial9's YouTube channel, where compatible devices play the immersive version.
"AudioShake's stem separation technology is truly best-in-class," said Luiz Zanardo, Co-Founder and CEO of Spatial9. "It enabled us to preserve the integrity of the original work, ensuring that new listeners can experience these timeless tracks in their most authentic, yet innovative, form."
Why separation matters for older recordings
Many classic recordings have no surviving multitrack tapes, or the tapes are hard to access. Stem separation recovers usable parts from the finished stereo master, which is what makes an immersive version possible at all. Our guide to stem splitters and immersive audio compares the main tools and models. Later in 2025, Spatial9 applied the same automated approach to more than 1,000 AI-generated tracks with Pozalabs.
What to keep in mind
- Separated stems can carry some bleed and artifacts, so the immersive placement has to account for them.
- An immersive version made from separated stems is a new mix. Store rules differ: Apple Music, for example, does not accept Dolby Atmos made from stems extracted from a stereo release. See where you can publish spatial audio.
