Key takeaways
- Spatial9 took part in two sessions at the AES Show 2025 in Long Beach, held October 23 to 25, 2025.
- Alan Silva, Luiz Zanardo and Enrique Sampaio presented a talk on using large language models to position audio objects, introducing GravityLLM.
- GravityLLM combines a language model with acoustics and psychoacoustics rules to turn plain-language direction into sound positions and movement.
- A second workshop covered the pitfalls of moving sounds in Ambisonics and delivering the result in Eclipsa Audio.
Long Beach, California, October 30, 2025
Spatial9 took part in two sessions at the AES Show 2025, the Audio Engineering Society's convention held in Long Beach from October 23 to 25. One was a technical talk on using language models to position sounds in an immersive mix, and the other was a workshop on Ambisonics and movement in Eclipsa Audio.
Session 1: language models for audio object positioning
"Leveraging Large Language Models for Intelligent Audio Object Positioning in Spatial Audio Ecosystems", presented on October 23 by Alan Silva, Luiz Zanardo and Enrique Sampaio, introduced GravityLLM. GravityLLM is Spatial9's placement engine, which combines a language model with rules from acoustics and psychoacoustics. It turns plain-language direction, such as "bring the vocal close and lift the pads", into positions and movements for each sound. Our Academy lesson How GravityLLM learns explains how it works.
Session 2: Ambisonics and movement in Eclipsa Audio
"Empowering Spatial Audio with Ambisonics: Pitfalls and Experiences Using Movement Inside Eclipsa Audio" was a workshop in the Immersive Music Production track on October 25. It covered the practical problems of moving sounds in an Ambisonics scene and delivering the result in Eclipsa Audio. For background, read Ambisonics explained.
"At AES 2025, we showcased not only the power of Generative Spatial Audio, but the spirit of collaboration that drives our industry forward," said Luiz Zanardo, Co-Founder and CEO of Spatial9.
New website
Alongside the AES sessions, Spatial9 launched its new website at spatial9.ai.
What to keep in mind
- AES sessions are presentations to peers. A session at the convention is not an endorsement by the AES or by other companies on the programme.
- AI placement gives a fast starting point. Engineers can still adjust any position or movement, and our comparison of AI and hand mixing explains what it does and does not replace.
